A conference on Export and Trade Financing for SMEs

BANGALORE, INDIA: Indian SMEs, which contribute 40 pc to India's exports, have been playing a pivotal role in building Indian economy.

For many SMEs, gaining access to world markets will enable them realise the true potential. It would also enable them to exploit a new array of opportunities such as new niche markets, economies of scale, scope, volume, capability and ways of spreading risks. The demand for Indian products and services in the overseas markets is on the rise.

In order to meet the international demand and to compete effectively in the Indian market it is important for Indian SMEs to have access to adequate sources of export and trade finance and also have appropriate export and trade strategies in place in order to succeed in the international markets.

The conference, Streamlining Export and Trade Finance for SMEs, scheduled to be held on December 12 in Mumbai, aims at enabling SMEs enhance their connectivity in global market for promoting their products and services.

Very often SMEs find it difficult to access bank finance mainly due to the high default risk arising due to the lack of audited financial statements that banks can access for considering their lending decisions. The tightening of credit environment due to worsening Eurozone crisis has affected the export environment..

In that perspective the conference will provide unique opportunity to small and medium entrepreneurs from manufacturing, exports and service sectors to understand the financial support and facilities available from various banks and financial institutions for export of various goods and services, role of ECGC, Exim Bank, Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of MSME, NSIC and other agencies for the development of export sector. The participants will have advantage of interaction with senior officials from these organizations.

Also, participants will be apprised about international finance which is available at reasonable interest rates. The Conference will enhance the ability and capabilities of SMEs for expanding international trade and to identify emerging opportunities in various sectors.
