A G Rao, CTO & president, Enterprise Business, Tata Teleservices Limited, said: “The company will provide superior 3G technology and services to all our esteemed consumers, and to this end, we are getting the latest LTE-ready technology from our technology partner, Huawei.”
TTSL selected Huawei’s 3G technology under the managed services model, which includes the installation of Huawei’s LTE-ready SingleRAN fourth generation multi-standard radios (MSR).
Max Yang, CEO, Huawei India, said: “We are keen that the Indian telecom industry will also benefit from the latest 3G technology from Huawei. We will ensure a rapid rollout of TTL's 3G network thus enabling them to not only capitalize on the current broadband 3G demand but also future-proof their investments by making the rollout LTE ready."
CIOL contacted Huawei to check the size of this deal but the spokesperson refused to comment on it citing confidentiality agreement signed between the two companies.
Another person who did not want to be named and is privy to the deal mentioned that this project will be completed by June next year in all the six circles.
“The work will run in parallel and you can expect it be ready in six to nine months' time,” said the person.
This implies that TTSL will be able to provide 3G services only in the second quarter of 2011.
However, Rajeev Narayan, spokesperson, TTSL clarified that company's network is 3G ready and only minor upgrades are required.
“We will be launching 3G services by the end of this year. This deal will cater to some of the upgrades that are required in the network,” said Narayan.
