NEW DELHI, INDIA: WiMAX Forum, an umbrella association of the technology providers of high-speed wireless broadband Internet access, has urged the government to de-link spectrum auction for WiMAX services from the 3-G services.
If de-linked, WiMAX auctions, which require different spectrum band, can be conducted ahead of 3-G as it involves less capex and faster rollout.
C S Rao, WiMAX Forum (India) chairman, says: “Our broadband penetration is miniscule and clubbing the two auctions has meant that unless until any decision is made on the 3G spectrum auction the consumers would continue to be deprived of even the wireless broadband services.” Source
