BANGALORE,INDIA: Handsets major Nokia plans to make its entire range of GPRS-enabled handsets email enabled in India by 2010.
The move come in the backdrop of several research reports suggesting that about 78 per cent of web email users want to mobilize their email and the number of mobile email users are growing at 96 per cent and the number is expected to cross 50 million by 2014.
The messaging service will be built into every device that comes under the smartphone category as well some models in the lower-end series that are GPRS enabled, said Viral Oza, head, Activation, Media and Online Markeing, Nokia India.
He added that the enabling of messaging service is a step in making our customers completely mobile. Subsequent to the introduction of messaging services, Nokia is also planning to introduce Ovi Chat followed by social networking features.
Nokia Messaging, an email service, mobilizes email by bringing 10 different email accounts through a single client, including enterprise emails.
In line with the plan to extend the messaging service, Nokia also announced today the availability of a new version of Nokia E63 in India. The new version equips the users with a host of enterprise and personal solutions.
Nokia offers email to consumers in three ways - for business users through Lotus Notes and Mail For Exchange, for individual consumers through Nokia Messaging and Ovi Mail for first time email users. Nokia Messaging is an email service that mobilizes your favorite email. Nokia Messaging makes it easy to manage multiple mailboxes with just one simple interface. The service also allows email to be delivered to the Nokia email devices automatically - without the need to constantly check for new emails, Nokia said in a press release.
For consumers: Nokia Messaging for consumers is a push email UI that aggregates all the consumer email accounts through one client. it can support and mobilize up to 10 email accounts such as Gmail, yahoo, Rediffmail, Sify and Indiatimes amongst others.
Nokia email solution removes the barriers and prohibitive costs associated with mobile email. It ensures easy toggling from one email account to another without closing the existing email account, and without having to go through the web browser.
For Enterprise buyers: Nokia is working with Microsoft and IBM in delivering best-in-class business email and business instant messaging experience. Business email solution such as Mail for Exchange and IBM Lotus Notes traveler deliver full mobile office experience with email, calendar, contacts and tasks.
Companies utilizing standard Internet email solutions (POP3/IMAP4) can take advantage either of Nokia Messaging , a serve by Nokia which provides a basic push email for standard Internet email (POP3/IMAP4) accounts or the direct Internet email access client included in Nokia devices.
