1 Touch-screen interface domination: Touch screen interface based phones will continue to dominate in 2009. iPhone taking the lead on this track, more and more powerful user experience devices will emerge in the market.

2.The power of handset to price ratio will continue to go up. More powerful and less expensive mobile devices are becoming ubiquitous and are as irreplaceable as any PC or laptop. Mobile handsets are becoming more powerful with each new release, to the point where the newest and smartest mobile devices are more like handheld computers than cellular phones.

And with every product release, the devices have more capabilities and cost less. As an example, the 8 GB iPhone 3G coming out this month will cost a mere US$199, compared to the original 8 GB iPhone that cost US$599 when it was first introduced last year and US$399 just a few months ago. The same trend is playing out with other smart devices, including BlackBerry, Windows Mobile and Symbian devices.

3. GPS Everywhere : The re-emergence of location-based services. 2008 saw very interesting Location Based Service applications such as turn by turn navigation etc where technology was the key enabler. More and more interesting Location based services application will come out as LBS will become a key ingredient in variety of other applications including business, social networking, advertising domains.

4 Smartphone breed : Smartphone is not just a business phone anymore. Convergence of devices dealing with media, GPS, data access will lead to some new interesting services on mobile.

5. Mobile Advertizing: The new mobile advertising solutions will not only be for advertisers, the ecosystem will help carriers by increasing data traffic and end consumers with data plans becoming available at discounted rate.

6 Wi-Fi and 3G Services : With the bandwidth bottleneck out of the way. We can expect new and innovative bandwidth intensive services will become available in 2009.

7. Mobile Social Networking : With mobile as your go-to device for almost every form of communication, social networking on mobile will be the way to go.

8. Mobile Security: With mobile becoming the centralized communication device security of information communication related to mobile phone is of very high importance. More advanced and data-heavy mobile applications and services on employees' mobile devices require more sophisticated monitoring and management. Over the past several years many industries have come to rely upon mobile enterprise applications. BlackBerry devices, for example, have become de rigueur among investment bankers and lawyers who need always-on access to e-mail, calendar and market information.

In the health-care industry, physicians and case workers can now capture and access health information at point of care using their mobile devices. Popular mobile enterprise applications used across all industries include sales-force automation, field-force automation, fleet management, inventory management, mobile tech and wireless CRM. Although, so far, infestation of wireless handsets by Internet-based security threats has been relatively low, new threats to mobile devices, including malicious programs (viruses, worms and Trojan horses) continue to appear.

In just the last few months, few Trojan horse viruses, targeting Symbian SMS messages and targeting specific Windows Mobile programs; new worms, targeting particular Symbian phones and targeting multimedia cards; have shown up. Thankfully, none of these malicious bits of code have caused widespread damage. However, despite the fact that the current threat is not particularly high, most industry experts are saying that the iPhone, Android, and mobile devices with WiFi and other broadband capabilities will undoubtedly be rich targets for malware and viruses in the coming years.

9 Voice over internet: With the ever stronger network and Wi-Fi supported handset. Voice over internet application such as Skype is likely become big in the 2009.

10. The digital divide: Majority of mobile internet users represented by the developed world, while the enormous growth in markets such as Asia will continue to be driven by basic text and voice handsets.
