BANGALORE, INDIA: When mobile majors like Nokia and Samsung are aggressively pushing their email delivery service on their smartphones, a Bangalore-based technology start-up has ventured to bring email delivery service on mobile devices without GPRS connectivity.
The new application - BlacMail - a product of Fifth C Solutions, interacts with servers through short messages service (SMS) and brings emails on phones. In short, the service is something like mail service offered on Blackberry. Though it lacks in rich user experience and security features as on Blackberry, BlacMail can work on any low-end device on GSM networks.
The software application is aimed at masses and designed for a price-sensitive market like India, where majority mobile subscribers use basic handsets, explains K Krishnamohan, founder and CEO of Fifth C Solutions.
Technology:BlacMail is based on Push Mail technology, which means a server will be pushing the emails at specified time intervals.

The severs of Fifth C Solutions constantly interact with the email server provider's server. When a new mail is sent the BlacMail servers picks up them and alerts the BlacMail application on the handset. The communication from servers to handset will be in form of SMS but the mail is delivered on the client.

“Our email delivery service is based on server- and compression-based technology. The user experience is comparatively better than email through SMS service that is existent from some time now,” says Krishnamohan.
He added that the technology will be helpful to bulk of mobile phone users who use basic handsets in India. BlacMail allows users to access their mails through any GSM network on their cell phones anywhere in India – be it Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo or even your company/corporate emails.
The application targets the entire spectrum of mobile phone models and aims to provide complete email user experience. It can be availed with one-step account setup on one’s phone. Furthermore, it provides separate Inbox and Sentbox, supports personal and corporate/business account and identification. There is no restriction on the length of email received.
The application is available for free trial download on Fifth C Solutions website.
