Formosa Advanced Technologies Company is a leading backend supplier for Taiwan-based firms Nanya Technology and Inotera Memories.
According to industry analysts, FATC's revenues for the fourth quarter of 2009 are very likely to go up by 10 per cent on quarter. The company had earned revenues to the tune of NT$2.47 billion (US $76 million) in the third quarter of 2009 – which was up by 9.5 per cent sequentially, but down by 17 per cent from the NT$2.98 billion in the same period in 2008.
In a statement, FATC said that its DRAM packaging increased by 95 per cent-100 per cent, and its testing utilisation by 85-90 per cent in the third quarter of 2009. The firm also confirmed earlier reports which hinted that its share in the DDR3 segment was going up.
FATC said that DDR3 is expected to comprise 50 per cent of its total shipments for DRAM chips by the end of 2010 – with the shipment proportion growing by 20 per cent -30 per cent.
The backend supplier said it has set apart a capex budget of NT$4 billion for 2010 – up from the NT$2 billion estimated for 2009 – since it is seeking to add high-speed testers in 2010.
Apart from the memory sector, FATC is planning to expand, in 2010, its LED chip backend capacity, when the monthly output is expected to climb from 20,000 LED wafers now to 80,000 units in 2010.
