Freescale sees three key trends driving market growth over the next few years

BANGALORE, INDIA: This is a continuation of our outlook 2009 series. We present the views of Freescale on the top global trends.

This is followed by Sanjeev Keskar, Country Manager Sales, Freescale Semiconductor India, presenting his five top trends for India in 2009.

Top global trends in 2009
Freescale sees three key trends driving market growth over the next few years. First, the need for energy-efficient solutions. Energy efficiency has become a competitive advantage from the ability to produce products more cost effectively to marketing end products with a more efficient cost of ownership.

Second, the global population is aging at an unprecedented rate. For the first time in history, people over the age of 65 will outnumber children under the age of 5. Life expectancy is increasing, and new economic challenges are emerging. We will need to combine medical and information technologies to provide better medical care, patient monitoring and personal medical devices.

Third, user-generated content and the insatiable demand for bandwidth to fuel the multimedia experience are creating new social communities and new business and consumer behaviors around the world. Thanks to the growing availability of high-speed Internet access, driven in part by Freescale’s leadership in communications processors, user-generated content has become one of the dominant forms of global media.

Freescale sees these trends merging and converging, creating demand for new applications that combine multiple technologies and requiring semiconductor manufactures to deliver expertise that spans traditional market boundaries.

Here is Sanjeev Keskar, Freescale India, presenting his views on the top trends in India during the coming year. These predictions do not necessarily cover semiconductors, specifically, but also looks at the electronics and other related domains.

1. Energy: Solar Energy and/or LED lighting will drive new opportunity.

2. IT: Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs) will be launched in 2009 and will bring new revolution compared to desktops and laptops.

3. Consumer: Set-top boxes for TVs/LCD TVs and DVD players will be top drivers for the consumer segment.

4. Automotive Electronics: Hybrid electrical vehicles will bring new revolution in the auto segment.

5. Telecommunication: Wireless GSM and CDMA will continue to see growth. Both, the telecom infrastructure and mobile phones will grow.
