Intel and other industry leaders are busy spending huge sums of money to create tools and train programmers to use multithreading even though it should be obvious to all that multithreading is the reason that there is a parallel programming crisis. The thread approach will turn out to be a complete waste of money, not just for the multicore vendors but for the consumers as well. It is a disaster in the making. Do a web search for "How to Solve the Parallel Programming Crisis" or "Nightmare on Core Street" for more on this subject. By the way, parallel computing offers an unprecedented oppotunity that countries like India, China or Singapore can use to leapfrog over the rest of the industry and dominate the field for decades to come.
