NEW DELHI, INDIA: Intel has unveiled its latest offering –- the 45nm Core 2 Extreme and Xeon range of processors. The new processors are regarded as the biggest transistor advancements in the last 40 years. The processors will boost performance and lower power consumption. In an exclusive interaction with R. Jai Krishna of CyberMedia News, Sandeep Aurora, director, Sales and Marketing (North and East), Intel South Asia, speaks about the launch, which aims to change the computing world in future, and Intel's go-to-market strategy. Excerpts: CMN: How do you see the new 45nm offering transforming the PC and electronics industries? Sandeep Arora: These new processors are the first to be manufactured on the company's 45nm manufacturing process, further boosting performance and lowering power consumption. Combining these two advancements with new processor features enables Intel to continue deliver faster and more energy-efficient processors that are better for the environment. The breakthrough clears the path for Intel to design products that are 25 percent smaller than previous versions and thus, more cost-effective as well as the ability to pursue new ultra mobile and consumer electronics 'system on chip' (SoC) opportunities next year. CMN: What are the advantages of the new technology for businesses? SA: Intel has created a new transistor recipe that alleviates wasteful electricity leaks in the hundreds of millions of transistors inside its processors. This breakthrough further speeds computers and increases energy efficiency, and clears a path for ongoing computer advancements in the years to come. The 16 new processors are all manufactured on Intel's 45nm process. These advancements also allow us to create a quad-core processor that is almost one-third smaller than today's product, yet has almost 250 million more transistors packed in it. Intel has also added a number of design features in these processors, such as SSE4 instructions, to boost certain video, photo, high-performance computing (HPC) and other related software applications. The new processors are more eco-friendly -- removing lead and later, in 2008, halogen materials, and recycling almost 80 percent of the water the factories use to manufacture them. CMN: What is Intel's go-to-market strategy for the 45nm processors in India? SA: The go-to-market strategy for the Core 2 Extreme processor would be focused on extreme users like gamers and media enthusiasts. We plan to educate the potential users about the benefits they derive out of the new technology through various means. On the new dual core and quad core Xeon processors for the server market, we plan to educate the users about the benefits like, power saving; enhanced Intel virtualization technology; and unique super shuffle engine through various means like mailers, seminars, direct contact etc., so that Indian enterprises and SMB users are able to derive benefits for their businesses.
