BANGALORE, INDIA: Here is the full text of the Freescale Technology Forum (FTF) 2008 India Keynote presented by Rich Beyer, CEO and Chairman of Board, Freescale Semiconductor.
Good morning and welcome to the 2008 Freescale Technology Forum. This is my first FTF in India and I am very excited to be here! Our FTF team has organized an extensive selection of application demonstrations and training classes to showcase Freescale’s solutions.
When I was presented the opportunity to join Freescale earlier this year, I was very excited about the potential of aligning our diversified portfolio with the industry’s fastest and most exciting growth markets. Last month, we announced our decision to sharpen our strategic focus and target our investments and resources on those high-growth markets where we hold a leadership position.
Technology leadership Freescale is the world leader in embedded processing, and we are going to leverage that leadership in the high-growth industrial, consumer, networking and automotive markets. We are the number one supplier of automotive semiconductors, and this has been built on a leadership position in automotive microcontrollers and with technology leadership in telematics, sensors, analog and power management for safety and infotainment.
We are the leader in communications processors for networking, and we are number one in RF power amplifiers for wireless infrastructure. We will extend this leadership to address the growing demand for broadband and internet access, both wired and wireless. We also offer technology leadership in our i.MX multimedia processors, sensors, analog and power management for embedded solutions used in personal mobile internet devices, personal navigation, gaming and other consumer applications.
Roadmap Freescale has a solid track record of making significant R&D investments and our strong financial position and solid cash flow will enable us to continue to make those types of investments. And with our new strategic focus, we will be able to concentrate our investments and put our muscle behind those opportunities where we can really make a difference. We also have deep customer relationships both in terms of longevity and in the levels of collaboration. By working with market-leading customers, we are shaping the future of our industry gaining insights into significant emerging trends and enhancing our vision of your future.
My business philosophy is pretty simple, and it’s built around one basic guiding principle, put the customer first in everything that we do, and we will build an enormously powerful foundation for success. My vision is that Freescale will help redefine best-in-class customer support and we will continue to expand that mindset into our technical support, our third-party support, as well as our tools and training. And I am working with all of our businesses to ensure that we have the appropriate lead times that match our customer needs and expectations in each of the different markets that we serve.
When it comes to quality, we are not satisfied with anything short of perfection. During the past three years, we have achieved an average year-on-year improvement rate of 43 percent in new product quality. And where the markets demand it, such as the automotive market, some of our product families have less than one defect per million, and we are working aggressively to improve that as well!
The Freescale Technology Forum is our crown jewel for customer commitment. This year we have assembled almost 100 hours of technical training classes and more than 80 Freescale and third-party demos in our Technology Lab.
