MediaTek opens new office in Hyderabad

Hyderabad design team poised to make significant contribution to MediaTek become leader in fabless semiconductor wireless communication chip market

HYDERABAD, INDIA: MediaTek India plays a key role in bringing various MediaTek’s ODM partners to India and works with them closely to promote their products in the Indian market and also provides real-time support and service. The company is a market leader and pioneer in cutting-edge SOC system solutions for wireless communications, high-definition digital TV, optical storage, and high-definition DVD products.

Hyderabad operations
MediaTek’s Hyderabad office is located in Hi-Tech City, which is the second largest IT hub in India. MediaTek’s operation in Hyderabad will help design and deliver the company’s leading fabless semi-conductor solutions to meet the demands of one of the world’s fastest growing market for wireless communications.

Elaborating about the importance of this office, Grant Kuo, Managing Director, MediaTek India, said: “This is our second design centre in India (the first centre is already fully operational in NOIDA). The Hyderabad Design Team is poised to make significant contribution in the continuous success and growth of MediaTek to become a world leader in the fabless semiconductor wireless communication chip market.”

The current total number of employees at the Hyderabad office is 28 and will grow to 50 employees.

MediaTek is strengthening its base in India and is playing a major role in enhancing technology base and providing service to the telecom industry. BTW, MediaTek also closed their office in Hyderabad last Thursday in the most humiliating way an Indian can think of. They came to office in the morning, called the team to a room and conveyed that it is their last hour. By the time the team came out, their laptops sealed and seized and network cut off and given the final settlement checks. They were given 2 months salary + 15 days of salary per year of service. They all believed that the team is a bright team but apparently this team doesnt fit into their organization. It is a humiliating way these MNCs are treating the Indians using them for cheap labor when they needed and getting rid of them when they dont need. We need to blame the Govt on their failure to think through and develop competencies in the country thus avoiding such circumstances. If young engineers dont wake up atleast now, the future in India will be blood shed with more fires than hires purely based on lower cost than skill and long term competencies. Service companies - Wirpos, Infosys etc - Be ware. You will soon face same situation within your ODCs if you dont develop competencies in product development and ownership - An Indian
