Intels new chipset to support 3 WiMax versions

CALIFORNIA, INDIA: Intel has reportedly begun production of Kilmer Peak, a wireless chipset that will support three versions of WiMax - 2.3GHz, 2.5GHz and 3.5GHz.

"Kilmer Peak is in production and will launch with the Calpella Arrandale notebook platform solution in the first quarter of 2010. The chipset will support the three WiMax profiles," Intel spokesman Barry Sum was quoted as saying by IDG news service on Sunday. “As for the availability of notebooks with Kilmer Peak built in, it’s more appropriate for you to check with the OEMs after the official launch in Q1,” Sum added.

In August 2008, Intel had announced that it will introduce support for the 2.3GHz and 3.5GHz profiles, which will be available in 2009.

But afterwards, Intel has been going through a tough time. In the latest instance, New York Attorney General Andrew M. Cuomo has recently filed a federal antitrust lawsuit Wednesday against the company that accuses it of paying computer makers rebates to illegally maintain its monopoly power, the newest among several such attacks that have dogged the chipmaker in recent years.

"Intel has engaged in a systematic worldwide campaign of illegal, exclusionary conduct to maintain its monopoly power and prices in the market for x86 microprocessors," the suit had asserted.
