Greateks new plant in Chunan to open by year-end

TAIPEI, TAIWAN: The Taiwan-based Greatek Electronics, the chip-packaging and testing company that focuses on the consumer electronics market, has said that its new plant situated in Chunan, Miaoli, in the northern Taiwan, is expected to start operations in the middle of December 2009.

Greatek Electronics said in a statement that the company plans to sell its existing plant at Kungyi and move into a bigger production base in the first quarter of 2010.

The company will speed up construction of the new factory during the slow season.

Capacity at Greatek Electronics’ new plant will be twice that of the old one, and will contribute to the company’s growth of sales for 2010, the statement added.

Greatek Electronics said it expects a capex of NT$1.5-1.6 billion (US $46.7 million-49.8 million) for 2009. Of this amount, NT$700 million has been set apart for buying equipment.

The company, however, has not set a capex goal for 2010, but expenditure on equipment is likely to return to the levels of NT$1 billion-1.4 billion as in 2007 and 2008.

According to Greatek Electronics, revenues for the fourth quarter of 2009 may fall by about 10 per cent sequentially – better than the 15 per cent -20 per cent decrease usually witnessed over the fourth quarter in previous years.
