Sumitomo to showcase 40GbE transceivers at ECOC

VIENNA: The European Conference and Exhibition on Optical Communication (ECOC) set to get started in Vienna, Austria this week is expected showcase 40GbE transceivers and other parts, including testers.

ECOC organizers have said that the 40GbE transceivers and the other parts would most probably take the industry by storm. They the showcased products to be a major talking point at both the exhibitor stands and conferences.

At the expo will be present Sumitomo Electric, who has said it has begun sampling to major potential customers its 40Gbit Ethernet transceiver module. It has added that that it plans to start volume production of the device during the second quarter of next year. Sumitomo expects to unveil the device for a demo at ECOC, said the company.

The Sumitomo 40Gbit Ethernet transceiver module is said to be 40GbE standard compliant and the company is in discussion with the IEEE802 committee.

The 40 GbE CFP transceiver uses a four wavelength CWDM laser diode with a low power drive circuit, an EETimes Europe report said.

The Japanese major in fact has clarified that the development of the part, and the work at the IEEE towards a 40GbE standard, has been driven by an anticipated infrastructure capacity shortfall as soon as 2010 due to the rapid growth of Internet services, the report added.
