Maxim Integrated sells RFID IP to Intelleflex

SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA: Maxim Integrated Products Inc., the analog-chip manufacturer, based in Sunnyvale, the United States, has sold some of its RFID intellectual property (IP) to Intelleflex Corporation, the developer of RFID products, headquartered in Santa Clara, California.

Maxim Integrated Products will, in return, receive an equity position in Intelleflex Corporation.

In all, 7 engineers from Maxim Integrated Products will join Intelleflex Corporation.

In a statement, Peter Mehring, president and CEO of Intelleflex Corporation, said that the transaction “combines the leaders in Class 3 RFID.”

The complementary design ideas as well as development capacity, Mehring added, will let both the companies “speed up the product roadmap” and build “a leading position in the applications and markets’ for Class 3 RFID technology.

Peter Mehring said Intelleflex Corporation also has obtained $8 million in funding in the initial close of an investment round, led by New Venture Partners, the global venture-capital company, EETimes said in a report.

Maxim Integrated Products Inc. had, in January 2009, bought Innova Card, based in La Ciotat, France. The fabless semiconductor company Innova Card specializes in the design and development of secure solutions for terminals.

Maxim had, in 2009 itself, bought the secure transaction product line of Zilog Incorporated.

In the meantime, Maxim Integrated Products reported a sequential, double-digit rise in its sales for the second consecutive quarter in the period ending September 26, 2009.
