IIT Delhi wins Cadence design contest

BANGALORE, INDIA: Cadence Design Systems (India) Pvt Ltd, the Indian subsidiary of Cadence Design Systems, Inc., announced recently that Indian Institute of Technology Delhi as the winner of the 2009 Cadence India Design Contest, and BVB College of Engineering and Technology, Hubli, as the runner up.

Aimed at fostering the spirit of inventiveness and realization of ideas among the engineering student community in India, Cadence is the first EDA company to organize a design contest of this nature in the region, said a press release.

“Cadence has been committed to fostering growth of technical talent and design innovation in India’s academic community through the Cadence University Program,” said Jaswinder Ahuja, corporate vice president and managing director, Cadence Design Systems (India) Pvt Ltd.

He said the Cadence design contest is an extension of the program, and recognizes outstanding design achievements and encourages competitiveness among engineering students.

“The gap in design-aware manpower is a challenge that the semiconductor industry faces today. The goal of Cadence’s University Program is to address this shortage by providing commercial-grade software, support and training to engineering institutes across India,” he added.

Prof. G. S. Visweswaran, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, the guide of the winning project, said this design contest provides students with a platform where they can showcase their work and compete against other outstanding design projects at a national level.
