PARIS, FRANCE: EDA Consortium (EDAC), an industry trade group, has announced that EDA revenue figures have continued to grow on a sequential basis for the second consecutive quarter in 2009’s fourth quarter. The fourth quarter EDA revenue figure totaled $1.26 billion, which indicates an 8.1 per cent rise on a sequential basis. This growth has taken place even though year-over-year revenue has fallen by 4.2 per cent and the moving average in the fourth quarter has slowed by 9.1 per cent. The EDAC revenue figures have grown in the last two quarters, changing the trend of declining revenue from Q1 in 2008 to Q2 in 2009. Mentor Graphics Corp. chairman and CEO Walden Rhines has been quoted by EETimes as saying that the increased EDAC revenue was a positive sign. He opined that EDA was an industry that would continue to grow in the long term. He also pointed out that sequential revenue increases had occurred most notably in the CAE, IC Physical Design and semiconductor IP categories.
Categories such as Design For Test, ESL Design, PCB Analysis, Yield Enhancement, Physical Libraries and Verification IP have also displayed strong sequential increases. Rhines said it was because these categories were fairly new in EDA design and so they would continue to display stronger and faster growth as compares to the more traditional larger categories.
