LONDON, UK: Chengdu ICC (CDICC), a government-funded organization promoting integrated circuit (IC) design, based in Chengdu, China, has started an IC design center in cooperation with Magma Design Automation Incorporated, the EDA software vendor, headquartered in San Jose, California, the United States.

The National Integrated Circuit Design Industrialization Camp-Chengdu was set up in July of 2001 with the official permission of the Science and Technology Ministry of China. The camp, one of the 7 IC design industrialization bases in China, is the only center located in inner China.

Magma Design Automation said it will provide analog and digital IC design software and training on how to use its Talus and FineSim software to IC design companies in the National IC Design Chengdu Industrial Base.

Talus, which is an integrated IC implementation platform, is used to develop chips in 45/40-nm process technology. FineSim supports multi-CPU simulation, offering 3 to 4 times faster simulation than traditional simulators even while maintaining accuracy, according to Magma.

Zhigang, vice-director of Chengdu Hi-tech Zone Innovation Service Center, said in a statement that Chengdu Hi-tech focuses on building the semiconductor industry in western China. Chengdu Hi-tech works with leading IC design companies, test and assembly providers, wafer fabs, and other related enterprises – including Intel, SMIC, Freescale, CSMSC, Fujitsu, Conexant, IPGoal, Panovasic, and GoldTel – to create a complete industrial supply chain.
