LONDON, UK: The Taiwan-based foundry chipmaker United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) is likely to install soon equipment at Fab 12b, a 300-mm wafer fab at the Southern Taiwan Science Park.
In addition, United Microelectronics Corporation is expected to take over a similar factory from ProMOS Technologies Corporation, headquartered in Hsin-Chu, Taiwan, China Economic News Service has reported.,
According to the report, United Microelectronics Corporation expects a strong demand from firms, including Nvidia Corporation, the graphics chip vendor based in Santa Clara, California, the United States.
When completed, the expansion of United Microelectronics Corporation – which includes increasing production in Singapore – will raise the company’s production by 50 per cent, the report added.
In 2010, United Microelectronics Corporation is expected to spend $1 billion on expanding production capacity, compared with the $500 million it spent on boosting production capacity in 2009.
