HONG KONG: Qualcomm, the world's biggest chip designer, said on Tuesday that it expects to be selling its TD-SCDMA chips in mainland China within the next year. The company expected to be able to grab much of the market for such chips, chief executive Paul Jacobs told reporters during a media event in Hong Kong.
Qualcomm is the world's biggest designer of chips used in mobile phone handsets, relying on its patents for a widely used technology known as CDMA for its profit in an increasingly commoditised industry.
Earlier this month, the company forecast weaker-than-expected full-year results, citing aggressive competition in the mobile phone chip market and slowing handset upgrades.
