According to Percello Limited, the PRC6500 offers the capacity and speed needed for enterprise-grade applications, and it is the second product in the company’s Aquilo chip family.
The PRC6500 chipset supports 16 users, delivers evolved, high-speed packet access (HSPA+) data rates of 21.6-Mbit/s downstream and 5.7-Mbit/s upstream, and has a cell range of 2,000 meters optimized for outdoor applications. The chipset is pin-compatible with PRC6000, the 8-user HSPA+ residential device.
Percello says its PRC6500 – which is compliant with 3GPP HNB specs – integrates a powerful MIPS processor, 3GPP L2 hardware accelerators, an HSPA+ modem, embedded secured platform capabilities, IP-SEC accelerators, 2G/3G cognitive radio capabilities, peripherals such as embedded USIM I/F, as well as a timing and synchronization mechanism.
Yoav Volloch, vice-president (product management) of Percello Limited, said in a statement that the company is “entering to a new era” where small base-stations will play a crucial role in the evolution of existing and future cellular networks.
The PRC6500 chipset, Yoav Volloch added, enables carriers to deploy a second-layer network for high-speed HSPA+ data rates having very low capex.
The Aquilo architecture enables RNC functionality and UMTS NodeB to run on a single die.
The Aquilo family of chips contains femtocell L1 engine (FLE) – which includes an HSPA+ modem and embedded RF I/F – plus MIPS24Kc and its peripherals.
