TAIPEI, TAIWAN: Eon Silicon Solution and Elite Semiconductor Memory Technology (ESMT) are Taiwan-based multi-chip package (MCP) memory solution providers who have observed their shipments of MCP products continuously increasing because of strong demand from the Smartphone sector.
Sources indicated that the existing supply of NOR flash-based MCP products for smartphone applications is very tight as main NOR flash vendors, which include Samsung Electronics, Macronix International Company (MXIC) and Winbond Electronics, are incapable, or hesitant, to ramp up MCP products.
Samsung Electronics is at present focusing mainly on the production of NAND and high-density NOR flash memory products, while MXIC and Winbond Electronics are focusing on sales of distinct NOR flash chips and other niche memory products, sources explained.
Due to inadequate supply from the chief vendors, Eon and ESMT both have acknowledged additional bonus orders for NOR flash MCP products, sources comment, adding that Eon alone is anticipated to ship three million MCP solutions in the month of April.
