CPT TV panel exports seen doubling

BANGALORE, INDIA: Chunghwa Picture Tubes (CPT), the TFT-LCD based in Taiwan, is looking at shipping close to 7 million LCD TV panels this year. According to the company, the number would mean that exports would double from 3-3.5 million units recorded during 2008.

Meanwhile, the company has said that its small- to medium-size panel shipments are expected to grow beyond 100 million units. It has been pointed out that the revenue share of small to medium-size panels will increase to 30 per cent this year from 20 per cent in 2008.

With 18.5-inch and 21.6-inch panel prices having risen above cash-cost levels, order visibility has turned out to be high for 18.5-inch panels. The 18.5-inch panels can be used for both monitors and TVs.

The company also said that shipments of 21.6-inch panels currently are the highest of all large-size segments. The supply gap for glass is expected to increase in the third quarter, while driver ICs and PCBs are also currently in short supply, it was pointed pout.
