SAN FRANSICO: Analog Devices Inc. (ADI) has announced a high-performance development platform for wireless infrastructure equipment designers to speedily evaluate systems using digital pre-distortion (DPD) techniques in multi-carrier cellular base stations.

The company said its mixed-signal DPD (MS-DPD) development platform functions by integrating a complete high-performance RF and mixed-signal transmit chain from ADI with any FPGA development kit with a high-speed mezzanine card connector that comes from programmable-logic vendor Altera Corp.

This collaboration with Altera, ADI can now offer their customers the full circuitry and components needed to implement a base station radio say sources at ADI. A similar collaboration was announced by the company last month with Xilinx Inc. which is a rival company of Altera.

ADI says that the complete multi-carrier development platform is advantageous because it ensures that the time spent on component selection, interoperability issues and board layout is minimized and it simultaneously frees design resources to optimize the DPD algorithms required by multi-carrier GSM and multi-standard software-defined radio applications.
