COAI is a concentrated group set in 1995, a time when cellular services went commercial for the first time in the four metro cities. This Associations works exclusively for the promotion of cellular and telephony in India.
This later on emerged as a premier industrial body for the entire telecom sector. This is also a highly credible platform for delivering all cellular services and a great platform to interact with policy makers, technologists and so on.
COAI follows a multi pronged approach for all its activities and regularly interacts with bodies like DOT, TRAI on policies, regulations and has several sub committees under it like the financial committee, regulatory committee, business development committee, technology committee and so on.

All challenges are discussed and represented to the concerned sub committee and collectively voiced through COAI. Hence this ensures that adequate representation is done, the needed priority is assigned and the issues are addressed. COAI has 8 core names and 13 – 18 associate members.
COAI also represents GSMA, which is a worldwide body in India. In addition, it is associated with International members, the ministry, CII, FICCI, ASSOCHAM and so on. COAI conducts several programs, workshops, seminars and conferences for its members and to increase awareness.
In 2011/12, COAI will focus on addressing legacy issues like Spectrum, Cost and Duty, Mobile Broadband Penetration and will work with the Government. COAI has launched the Mobile Network Portability. COAI will also focus on the security related issues and work hand-in-glove with the law enforcement agencies.
