IT will advance sales capabilities of SMBs

BANGALORE, INDIA: According to SAP, SMBs are witnessing a sea change in IT adoption and are setting an example on how companies from the emerging economies are utilizing innovative technologies. Also, it sees a lot of traction from SMBs in India.

In an interaction with CIOL, Maneesh Sharma, head - Business Analytics and Technology, SAP India, talks about the trends in Indian SMB market and the company's various offerings to the segment.

CIOL: When it comes to IT, SMBs have unique needs. So how SAP is addressing their needs? Which are the SMB solutions that you have recently launched?

Maneesh Sharma: SMB market is one of the fastest growing segments for SAP globally, contributing to almost 80 per cent of the net new customer names. With over 3747 SMB customers in India, we continue to extend our market leadership through multi-channel and open ecosystem strategy across industries.

SAP believes that each customer has unique requirements and that has to be addressed differently. However, with our experience, we also understand that almost 70-80 per cent of the requirement of customers is common depending upon the industry segments they belong to.

For example, retail chains across the world will mostly have common business challenges. However, this may vary from one country to another, based on the domestic situations. For most SMB customers, the key challenges are access to global markets at an attractive cost, better cash flow and working capital management and faster time to market.

Some of our SMB solutions are:

SAP Crystal Server 2011 and 4.0 release of SAP BusinessObjects Edge: This is an entry-level BI solution for small companies and departments that will include self-serve data search and exploration in addition to the core functionality of report and dashboard viewing; SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI will help enable SMBs to address virtually any BI requirement - from reporting, visualization and ad-hoc analysis to data integration and data quality.

SAP Business ByDesign: It is a fully integrated business management solution that delivers the best of SAP software, on demand. The solution is designed as a best fit for companies that want the benefits of large-scale business management applications without the need for a large IT infrastructure.

It also features 30 end-to-end process scenarios and is delivered on-demand and managed, monitored and maintained by SAP experts in world-class hosted data centers. As a result, there is no need for companies to upgrade and maintain the solution and no upfront capital costs are required.

The starter packages are pre-configured systems which enable customers to start quickly with specific capabilities and to expand the usage of the entire integrated suite as their company and needs grow. Customers can deploy starter packages with as few as 10 users and expand their usage as required, thus making it easier for customers to get started quickly.
