Interestingly, the new site has already got some features which will benefit the SMBs across the globe. One of the most significant features is its ability to categorise friends, family and business contacts into 'circles', which SMBs can effectively make use of.
Jeff Huber, Google VP for Local and Commerce, replied to a query that, he cannot announce a launch date yet, but the company wants to make it great and is working on that.Meanwhile, Christian Oestlien, lead product manager for social advertising at Google, told Ad Age on Thursday that lot of companies, including MTV and Ford, had already expressed their interest in participating in the test group since applications were opened on Tuesday. “We want to include everything from small businesses to individual contractors all the way up to the largest brand names in the world. What we’re really looking for is companies that on the one hand have a real rich history of being active in the social sphere, brands that have strong, loyal audiences, and are proactive and engaging and who want to spread it out a little more,” said Oestlien.According to Mark Ivans, a columnist with Globe and Mail Update, Google+ will be a plus for SMBs. “After spending a few days exploring Google+, I think there is a variety of reasons why the free service is worth using. Entrepreneurs and small business owners should similarly explore Google+ to see if there are any benefits to enhance how they operate online.”Using 'circles' on Google+, a business could create circles for existing clients, leads, partners, suppliers and professional contacts. The content and information could be shared on the basis of the interests and needs of each circle. This makes it easy to provide content that may be relevant to one group but not relevant to other groups. Another interesting feature is that it integrates with other Google services. For any business owner using Gmail, Google Docs, Google Finance, Blogger or Google News, it will be easy to share information and content via the Google+ profile. It also lets users control their data. If a business owner wants to leave the service, he can take his data with him, and can delete the account if he wants, unlike Facebook, which controls a user’s data and so it can be very difficult to delete an account. Evans, however, said, “It would be unrealistic to expect Google+ to be a Facebook killer, but it will be another interesting social media option for small businesses and entrepreneurs looking to have a stronger or more vibrant digital presence.”
