BANGALORE, INDIA: Dell, despite the dismal results this quarter, in revenue, sales and profits is buoyant about the coming quarter. It is expecting increased sales from SMB and the SOHO (Small office/Home office) segment.
Steve Felice, president, Dell Asia-Pacific and Japan, speaking in a conference call with APAC media persons said, “Revenue line was lightly off this quarter, but we tribute that predominantly to Window 7. And I would like to explain that our customers delayed their buying plans in wait of Windows7.
He added, “A nice example of this is America. In the first two weeks of October, the sales came around 80 per cent of what we expected and post the launch it moved to 110 per cent of the expectations.”
According to Steve, the recovery is bullish in the demand cycle and that the sales would consistently go up as the customers start upgrading their 5-6 year old systems, moving from Windows XP.
Talking about the Indian scenario he mentioned that India is an important part of the Dell business. He added, “Enterprise segment has been a key focus, but looking forward, Dell plans to tap the consumer and SOHO market. We are redirecting our channels to increase our geographic and our own sales resources to enhance our sales coverage.”
He added, “We think we have terrific product line-up with Vastro and Inspiron range of products within India. We only started to focus on SMB and consumer only two years ago.”
On being asked about the acquisition of Perot systems, he said that, the acquisition is over and that the company is looking at integrating the Dell services with the Perot Systems, rather going the other way round. The Perot India business has around 7000 people in India and also a strategic region for the Dell’s business.
