SUNNYVALE, CA: Yosemite Technologies, Inc., a global provider of total data protection solutions, has announced that it has enhanced support for small and medium-sized businesses (SMB) using VMware virtual infrastructure.
With Yosemite Backup Unlimited, customers are now able to select the virtualization platform and the data protection method that makes the most sense for their environment and budget. This now includes supporting VMware Consolidated Backup (VCB), the snapshot capability built into VMware ESX and ESXi, which complements the ability to install agents in each virtual machine or running in the hypervisor. All configurations are supported with a single solution, at a fixed price and without incurring a heavy memory load or large CPU footprint on the virtual machines or the ESX server.
Unlike other data protection software for the SMB, Yosemite Backup Unlimited is not priced by the number of servers in an infrastructure, whether virtual or physical. Customers using Yosemite Backup Unlimited can deploy an unlimited amount of media servers and clients, thus freeing themselves from having to count their virtual machines. As it is common for the number of virtual machines to shrink and grow dynamically based on application and compute needs, it can be very expensive for customers using data protection software from companies that charge by the server. With VMware Virtual Infrastructure, you can install agents directly into the virtual machines, the ESX Service Console, or the VCB Proxy host.
"By providing support for all the basic methods of backing up virtual servers, Yosemite Backup Unlimited allows customers to choose the approach that makes the most sense to them," said Brian Gardner, vice president, product & technology management, Yosemite Technologies. "Unlike our competitors, we offer this support with one set of our standard software at a price that never changes, no matter how much your virtual environment grows. You don't have to install multiple components; you install one solution, pay one price and the job is done."
Yosemite Backup has a very small memory and CPU footprint, making it transparent to the virtual machine it's running on with very little overhead. Together with Yosemite's unlimited pricing, there is no real need for an "agent-free" approach.
Another distinct advantage Yosemite Backup Unlimited has over other data protection software for the SMB is that it supports media and master servers on Linux. Because of this platform support, Yosemite provides the capability to utilize a media server within the ESX Service Console for simple, inexpensive virtual infrastructure protection. With Yosemite's built-in backup to disk capability, customers get everything they need in one simple installation and without a heavy load on the virtual machines.
"For companies that do not have heavily loaded, 24X7 ESX servers, like SMBs, Yosemite's solution to place a media server within the ESX Service Console provides a simple approach to quickly back up all of the virtual machines on the ESX server. That saves time and money," added Gardner.
