An overview of SIDBI's MSME initiatives

BANGALORE, INDIA: The Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) is the principal financial institution for the Promotion, Financing and Development of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) sector and for co-ordination of the functions of the institutions engaged in similar activities.

The financial support is provided by refinancing eligible primary lending institutions (PLIs) such as banks, state financial corporations (SFCs), state industrial development corporations (SIDCs), state small industries development corporations (SSIDCs) etc. for onward lending of MSMEs.

Financial assistance in the form of loans, grants, equity and quasi-equity to non-government organisations/micro finance institutions (MFIs) for on-lending to micro enterprises is also provided by the SIDBI.

MSME knowledge hub

Reliable and timely information is essential for the growth of MSMEs which enable them to identify opportunities to arrive at an optimum strategy. MSME Information is an initiative by the SIDBI, aiming at improving the informational efficiency of the sector.

MSME Information will endeavour to provide users with easy access to a variety of informational material pertaining to the MSME sector, including MSME policies, publications, reports, other important circulars and guidelines by the government, RBI, ministries etc.

SIDBI Foundation for Micro Credit (SFMC)

Launched in January 1999, this is meant for channelising funds to the poor in line with the success of pilot phase of Micro Credit Scheme. SFMC's mission is to create a national network of strong, viable and sustainable MFIs from the informal and formal financial sector to provide micro finance services to the poor, especially women.
