I think the pricing of Rs.65-75 k for R700 will NOT help Toshiba in achieving its sales target. They have to understand the market segment they would be competing. In this segment they would be pitted against Dell Vostro 3300 and HP probook 4321/4320 models. Both are way lower in prices than R700. Dell votro is offering almost same config at around Rs. 45k sans HDMI but backed up by formidable after sales support. Toshiba is not a preferred brand in India. They have to price this product competitively if they want to get a good market share. In USA the same model is being priced at $ 850-1200 which means that for a base model it costs Rs.40/45 k in the USA. Considering that most models come from China anyway which is closer to India, hence lower logistics costs, okay there would be customs charges, but still they have to price this model within Rs.40-50k. Otherwise they would fail to get a good market share just like R600 which is priced at Rs.1 lakh. Toshiba also need to strengthen their after sales support preferably build their own service centers. Their outsourced service partner RTC is no good. I had to wait endlessly and no decent engineer is available neither do they stock spares. My Ist laptop was a Toshiba & currently, I am using a Portege model, after using Dell Latitude for 5 years. I was very satisfied with the Dell service. Toshiba need to focus on two aspects. Vidya Balan alone can't get them market shares :) 1) Competitive pricing considering the market segment of that model i,e, end-user, commercial, gaming etc. 2) Toshiba must revamp their after sales services and establish their own service centers. Hope my suggestions get to Toshiba managers.
