MUMBAI, INDIA: McAfee, the US based security solution provider, launched the 2009 version of consumer security suites including McAfee’s Total Protection, Internet Security, VirusScan Plus and Anti-Theft File Protection, in Mumbai on Wednesday.
These latest suites comes with improved Active Protection technology for quick malware detection and other features - fast updates, large malware database support for virus detection, protection without interference, enhanced computer system performance, home network security and full critical protection.
With Active Protection technology, the consumers are always secure and can get fast instant updates in case of malware detection, which has 99 per cent or better detection rate, the company claimed.
In addition, the critical protection varies from anti-phishing, anti-virus and website safety ratings. It helps users have a secured surfing and shopping with the ability to protect sensitive documents, data and files. Along with this, it detects intruders or hackers on the home network.
Moreover, the Anti-Theft File Protection allows the users to drag and drop of sensitive files and data into “digital” vaults on computer’s hard disk or USB drive. This encrypts the vaults with password protection.
According to McAfee’s regional director, India and SAARC, Kartik Shahani, these consumer security suites are offered under the McAfee’s version-less software model where the software version automatically gets updated for the licensed users rather than manually downloading the new software version or buying its new pack.
“Based on the SaaS concept, we offer ‘security as a service’ for the online users via subscription,” Shahani, added.
The company has the strategy of buying or building technologies in short time for its growth. “For our growth we do acquire products and companies with unique technologies. And integrate it with our existing products into a single console to offer hassle free security solution to the customers,” Shahani explained.
Even in the latest edition of security suites, about five recently acquired companies and their technologies have played a key role.
“Safe Boot for encryption and anti theft technology, Site Advisor for anti-phishing and online security technology, Hacker Safe for website certification technology, Entercept for host intrusion technology and Deersoft for antispam software technology,” Shahani told CyberMedia.
However, Shahani concluded with an interesting comment and said, “We are not great in marketing but we are great in technology. And this is a major market launch of our products in last five years.”
The suites are priced between Rs..1500 to Rs..3000.
