REDWOOD CITY, USA: Administrators at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) are running the campus with confidence thanks to Ingres Corp., a leading provider of open source database management software and support services. IIT Delhi, one of seven leading institutes of technology in India, adopted Ingres Database to support critical administration functions such as grading, finance, human resources, procurement, and hospital administration.

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi is one of the seven institutes of technology created as centers of excellence for higher training, research and development in science, engineering and technology in India. More than 10,000 students and 2,000 staff make up the bustling campus. IIT Delhi needs reliable systems to support its consistent growth. Ingres has enabled IIT Delhi to build and manage mission critical applications. After Ingres became open-source, IIT Delhi has been upgrading its applications to the current version.

"Since Ingres based applications and databases are easy to maintain, we are already seeing significant savings in technical resource deployment," said Ashvin K. Gosain, professor and head, Administrative Computerization Support Services at IIT Delhi. "The Ingres open source database addresses and exceeds our requirement for mission critical applications, " he added.
