MUMBAI, INDIA: At a time when India is gripped with dread of terrorist attacks, bomb blasts and the ever-haunting threats on security and life at large, safety of humans and security of properties has become the top priority for government agencies, security forces and even private companies.
While, the government agencies and security forces are working hard to develop new strategies and mechanism to meet this situation, Gridbots, an Ahmedabad-based technology firm, has developed GirdSURV – a smart intelligent automated surveillance system. With its multiple features, GirdSURV can offer an effective monitoring and can come handy to strengthen the security.
This device comes with a black box unit, that is, the hardware unit, four modular cameras and a small screen console for alerting the user.
While the CCTV systems that constantly records the visuals requires a large number of videotapes for footage, a computer system and a dedicated person for round-the-clock human monitoring, this system makes the surveillance easier.
GirdSURV has the smart feature of content analysis that continuously keep a check of visuals and on noticing any suspicious visual, image, object or voice, it automatically starts recording.
Within one minute of content analysis, the system with its intelligence responds with the alerts to the user using any of the modes such as SMS, phone call, email, or blinking of lights.
"The content analysis works by using GirdEye – a video analysis program for face and object detection that scan about 30 frames per second in a real time," said Pulkit Gaur, founder and chief technology officer, Gridbots.
"This offers tracking up to 10 individuals that had been viewed by the system during its monitoring. Also, the tracking can be raised to 100 people with the upgrading of the system hardware and configuration." According to Gaur, the intelligence of GirdSURV has been developed using C, C++ language and offers a great flexibility for its integration with other platforms and interfaces.
"It can easily integrate with an existing monitoring system at the user end. In addition the intelligence used for detection during the surveillance can be configured as per the user's requirement."
GirdSURV intelligent recorders are capable of recording 100 times more than the traditional DVRs, said Gaur. "In case the system runs out of storage, the tech firm offers online storage space via its website, where the user has to login with the given user ID and password on Girdbot's portal."
Other features include, voice recognition, expandability in number of cameras of any types, monitoring and controlling via web browser, mobile phone or any desktop application. Multiple systems can be interconnected with each other using networks and Ethernets that also allows sharing of content and offers content based search operations.
The entire GirdSURV surveillance system is linked with a central monitoring server that has a built in artificial intelligence that helps taking independent decisions while generating alerts based on the content.
"Presently, we have about 10 clients from IT and telecom sector that are using beta versions of GirdSURV. Also, the Ministry of Home Affairs is our client, but information about it is considered classified so I cannot disclose it," Gaur concluded.
