Tata Comms Srinath in Global Telecom power list

BANGALORE, INDIA: For the second year in a row, Global Telecoms Business, a Euromoney publication, has ranked Narasimhan Srinath, MD & CEO of India telecom major Tata Communications, at the 8th position in the Global Telecom power list, a company announcement said today.

Global Telecoms Business writes specifically for the senior managers who run telecoms carriers worldwide.

"Narasimhan was given the job in 2002 of taking over the former state-owned VSNL, which once owned a monopoly in the country international telecoms connections,” said the publication.

“He has transformed VSNL into a true international operation, putting Tata's $29 billion might into taking over networks such as Teleglobe and Tyco Global Networks so that it now has a presence in Europe and North America - just the countries whose high-bandwidth connections into Indian outsourcing operations," it added.

The list is headed by Rob Conway, CEO and board member of the GSM Association, followed by Randall Stephenson, Chairman, CEO and president of AT&T, and Ivan Seidenberg, Chairman and CEO of Verizon.

The other Indians in the top 25 are Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman and group CEO of Bharti Enterprises (18), Punit Garg, President and CEO, Reliance Globalcom (21), and Rajeev Suri, CEO of Nokia Siemens Networks (25).

Apart from them, Vinod Kumar, COO, Tata Communications, has been ranked 60th, making an eight position improvement over last year's ranking.
