BANGALORE, INDIA: Sudip Nandy, chief executive of the Telecom and Product Engineering Solutions Business unit at Wipro Technologies is stepping down. According to the information, he will serve the company till September 30, 2008.

Joined in 1983, Sudip handled various roles in Wipro. His unit, with over 18,000 people, and revenue run rate of $1billion is the largest third party R&d outsourcing services firm in the world. Telecom and Product Engineering Solutions Business Unit has over 150 customers worldwide and operates from seven delivery locations in India, and over 10 delivery locations in America, Europe and Asia.

Prior to taking over the role of chief executive, Sudip was the chief strategy officer of Wipro responsible for setting and driving the strategic direction of Wipro Technologies globally. His responsibilities included mergers and acquisitions for Wipro.

In 2006 and 2007 he spearheaded the successful completion of nine M&A and two JV transactions. This included the largest-ever outward acquisition by an Indian headquartered IT Services company - the acquisition of Nasdaq listed Infocrossing for $600M. He also led the integration efforts for these deals.

In addition to this Sudip has played a key role in defining the Strategic Alliances Framework for the Global IT Business, which contributes over 6 per cent of Wipro’s revenues. This included partnerships that span multiple industry verticals and Service lines and has lead to a number of 360-degree partnerships that cover sell-to, buy-from and sell-with relationships.

Sudip has also been the head of the Microsoft Business unit at Wipro.

A Wipro statement said that he has decided to pursue interests outside Wipro. “In his long career spanning 25 years, Sudip's contribution to Wipro's growth has been significant. Recently, as the chief strategy officer, he played a key role in shaping our growth strategy and actively engaged with business units to define growth drivers."

Sudip has a bachelor’s degree in physics with Honours from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur and another one in Electrical Technology and Electronics from the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore. He is also an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad. Sudip has been an active member of the Institute of Directors. He is an active member in the Global Executive Forum of the Economist Intelligence Unit.
