Pitroda appointed PM's adviser on innovation

NEW DELHI, INDIA: India's National Knowledge Commission chairman and IT czar Sam Pitroda has been appointed the Advisor to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Infrastructure, Innovation and Information, a PTI report said on Wednesday.

In his new role Pitroda will advise the Prime Minister on integrating information communication technology in the sectors of infrastructure, health, justice and information. He will have the rank of a Cabinet minister.

Pitroda said he would work for the promotion of ICT in all social sectors and in infrastructure.

“We look at organizing integration of national knowledge network and broadband connectivity for better service delivery to the citizens," the report quoted Pitroda as saying. “We will develop an action plan for the next decade which will be a decade for innovation and infrastructure,” he added.
