NEW DELHI, INDIA: In response to the security concerns raised by India pertaining to the import of telecom gears, telecommunications equipment makers ZTE Corp and Huawei Technologies said they are considering building plants in India to address the issue.
Recently, Indian government has made it mandatory for telecoms firms to get security clearance from the telecoms ministry before placing any equipment purchase order.
A Huawei spokesman in India said a facility could be set up soon if the company decided to go ahead with the plan, but did not provide further details.
Earlier today ZTE Corp, another major exporter to India, also said it was considering building a factory. The company said in statement it was confident of clearing all required security parametres in the world's fastest-growing mobile market.
ZTE's senior management will meet India's home secretary on Thursday as it had been informed by local mobile operators that certain firms including ZTE have not met security rules, said D.K. Ghosh, chairman of ZTE India.
Industry sources have said the Indian government is not approving equipment orders from Chinese vendors because of security concerns.
