Intel gives a gentle push to ICT in education

NEW DELHI, INDIA: Chip giant Intel in association with Kendriya Vidyalaya Sagathan (KVS) and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), today felicitated various schools, teachers and students who have demonstrated exceptional performance in ICT integration in school curriculum.

Kapil Sibal, Union Minister, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt of India felicitated eight schools, eight teachers, twelve students and six regions across India to acknowledge innovative teaching-learning practices adopted by them, said a press release.

Winners across cites like Lucknow, Kolkata, Bangalore, Chandigarh and Pune were awarded.

The objective of Intel’s association with KVS and NVS is to equip and empower the school teachers and students with techniques in developing 21st century skills to prepare them to face the challenges of tomorrow.

Intel organized a joint contest to recognize innovative teaching-learning practices adopted by various regions, schools, teachers and students of KVS and NVS.

More than 3500 registrations were received and after a 3 stage evaluation of the digital projects, the winners were announced.

“Increasing access to technology can be a critical driver of economic growth, but it requires government and industry leaders like Intel to work together to make it happen. This program showcases the impact of effective technology integration in schools and creates the right environment for innovation” said Sibal.

The contest “Best Integration of Technology in Education” is aimed at strengthening ICT capacities across 4 categories namely student, teacher, school and region.

“Bringing innovation in education is a key requirement for India’s emerging knowledge economy. It is heartening to see KVS and NVS, along with Intel, encouraging transformation in teaching and learning and effectively using technology to promote critical thinking, problem solving, creativity for our 21st century students and teachers,” said Smt. D Purandeswari, Minister of State for Human Resource Development, Govt. of India.

She added that it would inspire a new generation of innovators in the country.

Classmate PCs were awarded to students for making effective use of technology in their projects.

Netbooks were given away to teachers for incorporating ICT tools in their teaching, while schools which incorporated Technology Aided Learning (TAL) in their school curriculum and regions which received maximum participation in the contest were awarded Digital Photo Frames.

“With the world moving rapidly into digital media and information technology, the role of ICT in education is gaining importance day by day to prepare us for global economy. Intel has come up with various initiatives to drive educational excellence with 21st century skills by integrating ICT in the teaching – learning process”, said R Sivakumar, managing director, sales and marketing, Intel South Asia.

They have trained more than 7500 teachers and 945 principals from the KVs across the country. Similarly the partnership with NVS has impacted about 6000 teachers and 450 principals across the country, the release added.
