Intel Ktaka present tech in education awards

BANGALORE, INDIA: Intel in association with DSERT (Department of State Education Research and Training), Karnataka and SSA (Sarva Siksha Abhiyan), today honored the winners of the 6th Technology in Education Awards, held annually, for effective integration of technology in teaching – learning processes, the company announced.

Three schools, 15 teachers, 15 student groups and five primary teachers/Block Resource Persons (BRP), were awarded for the best use of technology in education and integration of innovative teaching methods to promote 21st century skills and enhance student learning, said a press release.

Visveswara Hegde Kageri, Karnataka's Minister for Primary and Secondary Education, and Dr. R G Nadadur, Principal Secretary for Primary and Secondary Education were present at the ceremony as chief guest and guest of honor respectively and felicitated the award winners.

As part of the function, contributors who are part of 10 years of Intel Education in Karnataka were also honored.

A total of 450 entries were received for the competition from government schools across the state with good number of teachers and students from rural parts participating in the contest, said the release.

After the final evaluation, jointly conducted by DSERT and Intel Teach Program, the winners were awarded cash prize along with a joint citation from Intel Teach Program, DSERT and SSA, Karnataka.

Some of the winners were, Prateema Devi from Department of State Educational Research & Training (DSERT); Basavarajappa from District Institute Education & Training (DIET), Kumta; Gopinath Kalbagh from District Institute Education & Training (DIET), Dakshina Kannada; Gopalkrishna from District Institute Education & Training (DIET), Tumkur; Praveen Kamath from District Institute Education & Training (DIET), Udupi; Ashok Kamath from Govt High School (GHS), Volakadu, Udupi; Ranganath from Govt High School (GHS), Police Colony, Bangalore; Padmini and Parveen Taj from Prerana MT Club; D S Rajanna from DSERT; and Sandhya V Sharma from Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA).

The cash prize included Rs. 10000 each for schools, Rs. 5000 each for teachers, Rs.. 2500 for each student group and Rs. 3000 each for Primary school teachers / BRPs (Block Resource Persons).

“The Karnataka Teach Awards showcases the impact of effective technology integration in Karnataka schools and exposes youth of Karnataka to technology equipping youth with the ICT skills to prosper in the 21st century,” Kageri said.

The association of Karnataka Government and Intel Education enhance the use of technology through education and reaching out to backward classes and rural students who cannot otherwise easily access advanced technology.” the minister added.

Rahul Bedi, director corporate affairs, Intel India, said, “Intel Teach program has supported Karnataka Government’s Department of State Education Research and Training (DSERT) for ICT integration and implementation in government schools of the state since 2001.”
