NEW DELHI, INDIA: Huawei, a provider in next-generation telecommunications network solutions, announced on Thursday that Huawei Technologies India, its wholly owned subsidiary, has completed 10 years of development and delivery of key software platforms and components for global markets.
The Indian R&D center was established in the year 2000 in Bangalore, to leverage Indian IT industry’s strengths in software development and project management, combining them with the Chinese’ strengths in system design and solution architecture to reduce its time-to-market and to be more responsive to customer needs, thus complementing Huawei’s expansion in global markets, said a press release.
State run telecom major BSNL had recently unveiled a 3G enabled Huawei's smartphone in its Tamil Nadu circle.
Huawei India R&D center began its operations with the development of Softswitch and Gigabit Switching Router in 2000.
Since then it has been engaged in developing critical components, platforms and products in Next Generation Networks, Intelligent Networks, Data Communication, Network Management, Telecom Middleware, Optical Network and Mobile Handset Software for telecom carriers across the world.
Following a security issue with the government the Chinese telecoms equipment maker had recently said that was it would ensure its networks were secure. ZTE and Huawei are even considering the setting up of plants in India.
Huawei said the software platforms and components delivered by its India R&D center have been deployed for a majority of global leading operators including Vodafone, T-Mobile, China Mobile, Deutsche Telekom, KPN, and Megafon.
Huawei India R&D center has transformed to take up end-to-end ownership of products ranging from front-end process line and system conceptualization to software development, testing and validation, delivery and deployment, post release support, new features enhancement and continuous optimization, building its core competence for the global market.
Xu Zhijun, president of global R&D, Huawei commented, “Ten years back, we established this R&D center in the hope that the deliverables and components developed here could support Huawei’s globalization efforts. Our dream has been realized as all the operating systems (platforms) in all the products for almost all of Huawei’s network equipments are developed here in the Indian R&D center.”
He added that during the 10 years of its operations, Huawei India R&D center has demonstrated its unique value to the parent company as a pioneer in CMM practices, software engineering and agile methodology.
Justin Chen, chief operating officer, Huawei India R&D center while congratulating the staff, stated “Huawei India R&D center plays a very critical role in the whole of Huawei R&D through significant contributions to the product lines in terms of delivery and market support, thus playing a vital role in Huawei’s globalization efforts.”
He added that this has been possible only through their staffs’ continued dedication and excellent contributions.
The Indian R&D center has demonstrated the highest level of localization among all overseas subsidiaries of Huawei, with 98 per cent of 2000 employees being Indian. Huawei India R&D center also works closely with the Indian IT industry through several outsourcing contracts to leading Indian IT companies.
