BANGALORE, INDIA: Huawei India's Global Network Operations Centre (GNOC), which was launched in Bangalore on Friday, will employ more than 1,000 Indians over the next three years.
Yao Weimen, vice-president, Corporate Affairs, Huawei India, revealed this and added that the company would constantly scale up its current workforce of 400 employees at the centre to reach the projected figure of 1,200 in due course.
Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. has about 120,000 staff members worldwide, out of which nearly 6,000 are based out of India.
"In Bangalore alone, we have more than 2,000 employees and 90 per cent of our employees in the country are locals," said Weimen.
Of these figures, the two NOCs in Gurgaon and now, Bangalore have a headcount of 650. "We have planned to make a capital expenditure (CAPEX) of $25 million on the Bangalore GNOC over the next three years," said executive director and head – Delivery and Services.
The information and communications technology solutions provider's $150 million research and development (R&D) centre is under construction in Bangalore and would accommodate another couple of thousand researchers and analysts in the next couple of years.
The company counts among its clients 250 leading telecom operators from across the globe and in India, has top service providers, including the state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, Bharti Airtel, Reliance Communications and Tata Teleservices.
Piloting 4G in India
During the event of the Bangalore GNOC, Garg told CIOL that Huawei India was working on finetuning and about to start a 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) pilot project.
"The talks are already on. This year, we are doing the (4G LTE pilot) project with Bharti Airtel in Karnataka," he revealed.
