Barking up the BlackBerry Tree
It should first figure out what to do with the mail systems terrorist do use, with foreign mail servers. Should it demand that all such servers be based in India?

Hello, it seems you have not got the real meaning of the whole issue. Whether encrypted or not, nobody sends direct messages. all messages are coded of course. Only thing Govt of India wants is to be able to read all messages to see potential threats. The message thru blakberry is encrypted and hence India wants to be able to read such messages. Do not give cock and bull story that terrorist will not send message through blackberry. come on.

When US intercepts EVERY Single calls/email/chat/ or any other mode of communication in the name of national security there are not much issues. Why do people like author of this article dont keep aside any biased thoughts and really get to deep of the issue ? IF BB cannot be monitored then it should not be allowed here in the first place. How the terrorist get an enterprise plan is second question. If it is true that BB is used and our intelligence is not able to track it, then my dear friend only we are going to suffer. If anything like mUmbai attack happen, only our sons and daughters and parents and friends will die. What you want ? A small shiny high tech gadget to keep up ur prestige or National security ? Only people who got their brain between their butt can support RIM in this case.. And remember, India is not the only country banned BB. Something to think about ?

I have some fundamental queries to raise about your article : Your point about using the DRAFT option in emails is correct. BUT, that is not foolproof. I have worked fairly long with a national telecom operator as the sole person incharge for interacting with security agencies and i know the system inside out… You said cracking the passwords and chasing Gmail & Yahoo is a long process taking months for agencies… Let me clarify… Even Gmail & Yahoo, much bigger than Blackberry, are cooperating with indian security agencies. If agencies know the mail ID, it only takes a day or two for Gmail (Google) & Yahoo to provide its password if requested through proper channels… They provide even the IP address of even basic things like who sent a particular scrap on Orkut !!! So even if its not travelling, mails are intercepted…Gmail & Yahoo dont need to put their servers in India because they are already providing what we need. Prepaid SIM’s??? Yes, u can get it through fake ID, but agencies dont want a terrorists address !!! They know it will be on wrong address since nowhere in world, terrorists use real identities… NEVER. All they need to know is what they upto and what they planning.. For this, there is a proper process in indian law where they can listen to the conversation & read SMS’s of a particular no.starting within 2 HOURS !!! Next, why is Blackberry not a choice for terrorist??? If u think with open mind without any prejudice, B’Berry is EXACTLY the mode a potential terrorost will choose… WHY??? BECAUSE IT CANNOT BE INTERCEPTED !!! Where in the world (Even in Cyber World) will you be so sure about any technology which is sure not to be intercepted. IF I WAS A TERRORIST, I WILL BUY A BLACKBERRY ENTERPRISE PLAN FIRST THING IN MORNING !!! Your comparison with Chinese Censorship? Not even close. We are not sending Google out of India because they are not censoring search results which hurt Hindu Religion or is pro-independence for Kashmir??? China censors net, plus they force it on companirs like google. Do we Censor in India?? NO… We are just asking for our national security which every country in the world has a right to. Just asking for lawful interception as with every other mode of communication in country (and free world). Unlike China am sure, democratic India has a very robust check & balances system in place for such interception which cant be misused. so, where is autocracy? We are just stressing our right to national security and as the major receiver of terror, we are rightful in asking to be safe !! Further, why RIM is denying this to India? If they can provide access to USA, why not to India? They keep it a secret that USA has the rights because US is their parent nation and US & Canada are supporting them for earning money all over the world without compromise. Is national security of USA more important than India? I am sure u know about US Patriot act, where they can automatically tap your phones the moment u say “Al Qaida” or “Bomb” on your phone… Every country takes its security seriously and so does India… So, i suppose, u agree now that India is not wasting its time chasing Blackberry. Infact, it has wasted enough time already by letting Blackberry work for so long without access. DoT & MHA is always baying for the blood of telecom operators & puts strictest possible penalties every time a single connection on fake ID is found used in any terror attack even when they provide 24X7 support to security agencies. So, why is an MNC like RIm taking Indian securiy for a ride? Why cant it comply to Indian security requirements? Do we need a major terror attack involving Blackberry by a “Modern” terrorist” like “Headly” to awaken? Why cant Indian security agencies, for a change, preempt the danger and nip it in its bud before it grows? Why cant we accept foresightedness of our security agencies?

Govt. shouldn't accept nothing less than "Uninterrupted " , "Unencrypted" and "Unconditional access of data" , as is the case of other mobile devices and services in India.

No sir No! Thats not a only point of whole issue.A real point is " our nation's security agencies must be able to track and decode the messages , originating from our land as we are sovereign country.Becuse of one copmany say BB, who have excellent product doesn't mean that we should ever compromise on our security aspects. True , terrorist may not use Black berry at all , but you cannot guarantee that they have discarded the use of this device forever. (Does Terrorist consult any of us before hatching their plot using technology?). Remember , USA and western countries blatantly rejects Indian Agro items , food items etc on the name of security of their people's health, though it may not harm them as we Indian consume such items. Cannot we dump a single device for the sake of our nation? I do believe in motto : Security first , Technology later , Business operations... the last!
