NEW DELHI, INDIA: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) said on Thursday that it has paid the BWA spectrum fee of Rs. 8,313.8 crore after taking loans.
“We have paid the fee today. Some loan was taken for this instead of making payments from our internal resources,” said Kuldeep Goyal, chairman and managing director, BSNL to CIOL.
MTNL had also borrowed Rs. 4534 crore to pay for the BWA spectrum.
The deadline for making BWA payment was June 22, 2010. While all others paid the fees BSNL had requested for a few more days' time beyond this deadline to arrange funds and make payment, but the Department of Telecom (DoT) denied the company's request. The company had reserve of Rs. 35000 crore before paying for 3G auction fee.
After BSNL payment, fiscal deficit of India comes down to Rs. 2,38,737 crore approximately from Rs. 3,45,000 crore for the financial year 2010-11. The recent 3G auction has already helped the government in getting a revenue of over Rs. 67,719 crore and BWA auctions have further added Rs. 38,543.31 crore.
