BANGALORE, INDIA: Indian software services major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), which has been ranked the world’s ninth-largest software services company, is said to have lost one of the major US clients, Halliburton, to Accenture.

Over the next few months, Accenture would build a team of around 130 people for the project. This would be a toll or service only for the company  to track, update, report their day-to-day process for monthly/ half yearly, as well as annually. This is a new addition to the company's portfolio which recently won a six-year deal from Henkel and a five-year deal from Nordea, while TCS also won Telenor deal from Norway.

“Accenture would be setting up teams for .NET, Project Portfolio Management, SAP and Asset Management for the client. With this the company could look into their process like finance, cost, people management, resource management, time management, project management,” according to a source.

While the spokespersons from both the firms (TCS and Accenture) declined to comment. The deal is expected to be more than a couple of million dollars worth and would be under Accenture for two years. This could be extended to five years based on customer feedback.

With over 50,000 employees in approximately 70 countries, the company serves the upstream oil and gas industry throughout the life cycle of the reservoir. It has state-of-the-art technology centers, located in the country at Delhi, Mumbai and Pune, apart form other countries like Belgium, Canada, Singapore, the U.K. and the U.S.

The global technology research team supports all 10 of the product service lines. In 2009, Halliburton spent approximately $349 million on technology research and development.

Having said that, gaining and losing project  is an ongoing process. The average repeat business for these companies comes across 92 per cent.
