Wipro BPO to hire 1200 despite slowdown

HYDERABAD: Though laying off has become the order of the day to fight the global economic slowdown, Wipro BPO, the business process outsourcing division of IT giant Wipro Technologies, is hiring personnel and expanding its operations globally, say reports.

"For the last six months, we have been hearing depressing news about people losing jobs and companies resorting to cost-cutting measures but we are still looking for people," an IANS report quoted Wipro BPO head Ashutosh Vaidya as saying.

He said the company has plans to expand its BPO facility in Hyderabad by recruiting 1,000 to 1,200 people over the next six to eight months. At present, 3,150 people are working at the Hyderabad facility.

Wipro, which has its operations in 14 locations in different countries, currently employs 22,600.

While announcing the financial results recently, Wipro Technologies had said that it would not make any advance campus recruitments, though the company would continue to invest in work force as per their requirements and specific niche skills.
