Webdunia online poll says political stability need to improve economic stability

NEW DELHI,INDIA: Just when uncertainty is looming large over all walks of life due to the global slowdown, many people believe that a stable political environment might stabilize the situation and help revive the economy.

As indicated by the ongoing pre-poll election survey conducted by Webdunia.com, prior to this month’s Assembly polls in Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, voters prefer single party government in most of the states, except Chhattisgarh, which prefer coalition rule, said a press release.

Majority of the voters feel that politics and economics go hand in hand and a single party may be able to bring more political stability thus stabilizing the economy.

The Webdunia online poll captures the mood of 20,892 readers getting online and expressing their satisfaction over the current government, on whether they need a change in political leadership, the issues that they will evaluate before casting their vote, the release added.

The poll also brings to fore the voter preference for a single party in Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. The number of citizens voting for the four States - Delhi, MP, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan - were 5219, 5982, 4360 and 5331 respectively, it said. Inflation turned out to be the most important issue on the agenda for the respondents to the poll in the coming elections.

Around 34.24 per cent users in Delhi rated inflation as among the top issues (terrorism, corruption, nuclear deal, roads and electricity, employment, reservation). However, in Rajasthan, only 28.75 per cent respondents considered inflation a top issue, while in MP, it was 22.94 per cent, the release pointed out.

In Chhattisgarh majority of the respondents (55.60 per cent) felt roads and electricity as the major issue while inflation came second. In Delhi, the storm over Indo-US nuclear deal also assumed certain importance, as 37.74 per cent of the respondents consider it to be the second most important issue in elections there.

According to the pre-election polls, a vast majority of the users (77.62 per cent for Chhattisgarh, 65.62 per cent for Delhi, 61.56 per cent for MP and 52.39 per cent for Rajasthan) feel that the respective state governments should focus primarily on the improvement in basic amenities.

The other issues that also need attention are employment generation, reduction in crime and corruption. Surprisingly, in all the States the respondents wanted a change in the current Chief Minister, the release said.

Responding to the online poll, Webdunia.com president and chief operating officer Pankaj Jain said: “Webdunia shall deploy this interactive feature to give an unbiased view of the citizens to the elected leadership in the states in days to come.”

Indicating that the results of this online survey may vary as more readers cast their choices, Jaideep Karnik, chief content officer of Webdunia said, " Online survey are emerging as a speedy platform among the Internet users to express their views.”

single party is not the answer but two party or three party is the need of the hour and voting by hand or in camera or just like in court with camera recording is the need for total transparency.
