Veveo gets $7.8-mn funding from NVP

The company’s video search service – vtap – launched in India

BANGALORE, INDIA: Veveo, developer of video search engine vtap, has secured a $7.8 million in venture capital from Promod Haque, managing partner of Norwest Venture Partners (NVP).

The investment coincides vtap's launch in India. vtap is a mobile web video service that enables mobile users to browse, discover and share web videos from any source on the Internet.

To access vtap users need to point their mobile web browser at http://m.vtap.com or go to http://www.vtap.com on the Internet.

"We believe Veveo's entry into this expanding market positioning vtap as one of the leading consumer mobile applications in India," said Haque. "Veveo is proof that next generation technologies are being developed out of Bangalore, and we are excited about the company's progress to date."

"Just as mobile email usage has become a habit, and encouraged the development of handsets like the BlackBerry and smartphones, we believe that we will soon see the proliferation of a mobile video habit amongst consumers all over the world. Related services, devices and revenue generating opportunities will emerge accordingly," said Murali Aravamudan, founder and chief executive officer, Veveo.

NVP had earlier invested in Winphoria Networks, Aravamudan's former company that was sold to Motorola for $179 million in 2003.
