NEW DELHI, INDIA: Bharti Group chairman and CEO Sunil Bharti Mittal today called for an immediate political dialogue to find a solution to keep Tata Motors' small car project in West Bengal.

Tata Motors had warned it would relocate its Nano manufacturing unit from Singur in West Bengal if the agitation spearheaded by Mamta Banerjee's Trinamool Congress (TC) continued.

"The Tatas pulling out of West Bengal would be unfortunate for India," Mittal said. "Nano is seen as a world car and has drawn international acclaim. Immediate political dialogue to find a solution towards keeping the project in West Bengal is imperative."

He further added in a statement, "If the House of Tatas, known for its values and care for the society, can face such resistance, the much needed fresh wave of industrialization in the country could suffer."

Top industry leaders in the country have warned that it will be a setback to the country if Tata Motors was forced to withdraw from its small car project from West Bengal.

RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani, Jamshyd Godrej, C K Birla, Gautam Thapar and Venu Srinivasan have come out in the open in support of the Tata's project in the Left-ruled West Bengal. CII president K V Kamath has also raised concern over the recent developments in that state.

Meanwhile, Tata Motors today evacuated its executives and staff to safety following constant intimidation by TC workers.
